There's a wealthy eccentric Englishman who dressed up in rags every day to sell soap door to door — then came home, put on formal attire, and lived in his mansion. Over time, he found himself more comfortable in his rags than his riches, and lived there. Paul says a lot of Christians do the same thing spiritually. The riches are there. They just never tap in.

In this message from our series "Fullness," Pastor Ron opens Ephesians 3:14–21 — one of the most potent prayers in all of Scripture — and walks through five things Paul prays that every believer would experience.

The Strengthening of the Spirit: Paul prays that we would be strengthened with might through the Holy Spirit in the inner man — not out of God's riches, but according to them. There's a difference between a billionaire giving you $25 and giving you $25,000. God's strengthening is always in proportion to his infinite glory.

The Settling of the Savior: The word dwell in verse 17 means to settle down and be at home. Christ may live in you, but has he settled? God felt at home in Abraham's tent. He sent angels to Lot's house, but wouldn't go himself. Paul is praying that Christ would reign in every room.

The Superabundance of God's Love: Four dimensions — width (it encompasses all men), length (from eternity past to eternity future), depth (it reaches the lowest depravity), height (it leads to heaven). God's love is so wide, so long, so deep, and so high that no one is outside of it. When you begin to grasp it, you'll have no problem loving the unlovable.

The Saturation of God's Fullness: The word filled is pleuro — not a glass full to the top, but a sponge saturated through every pore. God doesn't want us going on half a tank. He wants to dominate and control everything about us — and it begins by being emptied of self.

The Sufficiency of God's Power: Paul closes with a doxology built like a pyramid — able, able to do, able to do all, able to do all we ask, above all we ask, abundantly above, exceedingly abundantly above. That is the power available to every believer who is submitted to him.
