Our Inheritance in Christ

Teacher:
Passage: Ephesians 1:11-14

We live in a world full of broken promises — politicians, advertisers, employers, even spouses. But God is not slack concerning His promises. What He plans, He finishes. What He seals, He keeps.

In this message from our series "Fullness," Pastor Ron opens Ephesians 1:11–14 and covers the ground and the guarantee of our inheritance in Christ — showing how God has not only given us everything in Christ, but sealed it with the Holy Spirit as a down payment on what is still to come.

The Ground of Our Inheritance — It's All of God: We have obtained an inheritance, predestined by the One who works all things according to the counsel of His will. God doesn't start things and leave them unfinished — what He predestines, He energizes; what He plans, He completes.

The Human Side — Faith and Hearing: On our side, the ground of inheritance is faith — trusting Christ after hearing the word of truth. Both the sovereign side and the human side appear side by side in verse 13, and they meet perfectly in the mind of God.

The Guarantee — Sealed by the Holy Spirit: The moment a person believes, they're sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. That seal declares authenticity (you're His), authority (you carry His power), security (no power can break it), and a finished transaction (it is done).

The Earnest — God's Engagement Ring: The word guarantee is arabon — earnest money, a down payment, a pledge. The Holy Spirit is God's engagement ring to His bride, the church. He is good for what He has promised.
