Pastor Jeff and his wife Nicole planted a new church, Calvary Chapel La Esperanza, in the Western Mountains of Guatemala around 3 years ago. Starting as missionaries in Merida Mexico, Pastor Jeff was called further south to the people of La Esperanza to bring hope to a community where religion has consisted of Mayan tradition mixed with superstition, spirits, and pentecostalism. Calvary Chapel La Esperanza is in the process of moving into a new building and neighborhood next to the central square. Pastor Jeff and the staff will use Calvary Houston to assist in the After School Program that consists of 70 kids coming to the church for a meal, homework help, english class, and bible study. CH will also be involved in house-to-house gospel sharing, home fellowships with families in the community, street witnessing, and hospital prayer and bereavement. Typically, our missions team will oversee a women’s conference and/or a youth outreach as well as two Sunday services. There may be a few construction projects or painting jobs needed within the church or at one of the local schools.
Our goal is to assist Pastor Jeff and his staff to reach the community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are always planned and unplanned opportunities. There are a few fun days that consist of volcanoes, hiking, hot springs, a water park, lakes, fresh bakeries, and additional adventures. We try and mix our trip with lots of dynamic and relational ministry in the community for 10 days as well as experience the Guatemala mountains and people.
The people of La Esperanza are a very friendly and an open community to the gospel. It’s a very refreshing experience and God always does a great work in the hearts of those who go.
